United Nations WORLD FOOD PROGRAM Report

Special Thanks to The UN Foundation

The UN Foundation, a public charity, was created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner’s historic $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities. We are an advocate for the UN and a platform for connecting people, ideas and resources to help the United Nations solve global problems.

We help the UN take its best work and ideas to scale through advocacy, partnerships, constituency building and fundraising:

  • Partnerships because we have learned what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together through the United Nations;
  • Advocacy because we know the leverage and impact that sound policy can have on the kind of social, economic and environmental change the UN seeks;
  • Community-building because the UN was created for “we the people,” and all of us can give back and contribute to a better world;
  • We need new and additional resources to power solutions to global challenges.

New generation of video games takes on serious subjects

A local man, serious games advocate Bob March of Lake Worth, helped find companies — Yahoo, AOL and others that would help distribute the game.

"(Children) are learning that kids all over the world are the same and that kids their own age go hungry," March says. "Millions of kids go hungry. If we can teach kids a little bit of social responsibility, they'll grow up and they'll incorporate it in the rest of their lives, not just in money, but in time and effort. . . . Some of them will go on to create games, and it will create a snowball effect."

Games advocate Bob March of Lake Worth promotes 'Food Force,' a U.N. World Food Programme video game, and he posts updates on the game's status on his Web site, www.livegames.com

As of 2AM September 15, 2008, the number of players that are downloading the Food-Force game has reached over 8,000,000.

In other words, someone is now downloading a new game every second of every minute of every hour of every day.

That makes Food-Force the the most successful educational game EVER on the internet.

Wisdom, Inc., which is owned by Bob March has helped the Food-Force game to be successfully distributed in seven languages to children and teachers all over the world.
